Talk Pretty To Me

GIVEAWAY ENDS THIS FRIDAY! PLEASE GO ENTER NOW!! CLICK HERE

When I first discovered the blogging world I came across the blog “Talk Pretty To Me” and loved it. The pictures are not the usual in your bedroom photos- they are light and airy and are set in nature. (Which is why I think I liked it so much, being part redneck and nature lover) J gives a different perspective on fashion for us on the hamburger wallet and makes everything she wears look high end. Her blog almost resembles a diary with poems and sayings she loves, lists of things she would love to have and fun events that has happened in her life. After finding her blog and getting her advice on different things I decided that I wanted to start a new interview feature on my blog and asked J to be my first. Some of my questions are out of left field and random but that’s what makes interviews fun. I was going to write up the interview- but J's answers are so honest that I wanted to keep the integrity of it all.

I hope you all love J’s blog “Talk Pretty To Me” as much as I do! So check out her blog and read more here to get to know the person behind “Talk Pretty To Me

Let’s get to know you:
We know your first name begins with J, so what is the rest? A girl’s gotta have a little mystery in her life
How old are you? If you’re only as old as you feel, then I’m not a day over 19.
How tall are you? 5’10”
What clothes size are you? That depends on what day of the week it is and where I’m shopping. In general, I buy for fit, not what the label says. Sadly, women’s sizes are not universal, at some stores I’m a four and at other a ten. A long time ago I told myself to buy pieces for how they looked, not for what the tag says. If I look good in an XL than, XL it is.
Three words to describe yourself? Quixotic, compassionate, quirky
What do you do for life? Job/ study? I am currently a hard working nursing student who waitresses on the side. I will always be a student at heart, even after I graduate because I have a very healthy curiosity to know just about everything. When you think you’ve learned everything you needed to you, have grown old, so I hope I never stop learning.
If you were a crayon, what color would you be and why? I would be the scented black licorice crayon. It’s a timeless sophisticated colour that’s a little mysterious, and you have to get really close to the paper to see that, it’s more than just black, it smells good too. I like to think, that nothing about me is open and shut, and that I’m always changing and evolving, yet remaining true to myself, plus black licorice is my absolute favorite candy.
What do you see yourself doing 10 years from now? I adhere to the idea that, I will always be exactly where I am supposed to be, whether I like it or not. I could be in Tahiti or Guam; I could be a nurse or a solider. The truth is, I can make all the plans in the world, and fate could take me somewhere else.
Which countries have you visited? Outside the US, I have only been to the Netherlands and I was one, so I don’t think it really counts.
What is your nerdiest hobby? Probably blogging. Ha. Whenever I tell people I have a blog, they usually give me a weird look like “someone’s got too much time on their hands”. I have a lot of grandma hobbies though; I love to knit, scrapbook and bake.
Where would you like to travel in the future? Everywhere! I want to see it all. Right now, I’m really dying to go to New York City, I was there once when I was seven and I can’t really remember anything other than this heinous shirt I bought from a street vendor that said “the big apple”.
Let’s talk about the blog: Talk Pretty To Me
How did you come up with the name of your blog? When I was trying to think of what to name my blog, I heard someone on TV say “talk dirty to me” and I was like that’s it! Talk Pretty To Me.
What made you start a fashion blog? Honestly, I didn’t really know the “blogosphere” existed until I goggled one of Target’s design collaborations and The Budget Babe came up, I think I spent like 2 hours on her site the first time I found it. From her site, I got to Cupcakes and Cashmere and I loved Emily’s blog so much, I found myself ruthlessly checking both blogs in my free time, and I thought I have a lot to say and share, I can do this too and the rest is history.
What do you think you bring to the fashion blog world? There is this great saying that floats around the fashion blog community "Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everybody I've ever known." - Chuck Palahniuk I don’t really consider myself to be out of the ordinary, I haven’t really had any mind blowing ideas, all I can really be is myself and I am inevitably shaped by the world around me.
Do you like blogging? I love blogging, but I have to be careful as to how much time I let myself spend on here, I could literally spend hours looking at everyone’s site.
What's your secret on getting your blog so popular? I don’t really think I have some magical secret, I just write how I feel and share things I like.
How is your blog personality different from your real life one? Hmmm I don’t think it’s really that different at all, in real life, I wear those outfits and covet the things I post. I’m a really goofy girl too; maybe my posts don’t convey that as much as they should.
Have you ever regretted blogging your style (and life) online, becoming an online personality?
No, I love to share what I have. I think the best e-mails I have ever received are the ones that say I inspire them, that makes me incredibly happy and it’s unbelievably flattering. Whenever I have a bad day, I read what you guys write on my blog and it makes me so happy. I read every comment and I love going to all of your blogs too!
Have you ever felt like blogging was bad for you? If yes, why? No, blogging allows be to express my creative side. In medicine, there isn’t a whole lot of creativity, so I use blogging to fore fill my creative side.

Let’s talk about your amazing pictures:
What camera do you use? I use a pink Sony Cyber-shot
Who takes your photos? I take all my own photos for the most part. I try to find something I can set my camera on, and then I put it on a ten second timer and attempt to run into frame. I should really get a nice camera and a tri-pod.
What photo editing software do you use? I use Corel X Paint Shop Pro
Do you take pictures every day? I wish. It’s really hard to find time to take pictures; I’m incredibly busy with school and work. On average I’d say I take pictures 4x a week.
Let’s talk about your style:
When where you introduced to fashion? I probably owe this to my grandmother. My grandma taught me how to shop from the beginning. Every Monday, my grandma and her best friend go out to breakfast and spend the entire day shopping. I remember one Monday we were out shopping when I was about 15 and I couldn’t decide if I wanted this sweater and she said to me “If you don’t love it, you leave it” and it’s one of the best pieces of advice she has given me. So when I can’t decide if I should buy something I say that to myself. Usually, if you love something, you don’t have to ask yourself this.
How do you describe your style? My style is a direct reflection of my mood. Sometimes, I dress ridiculously girly, other times it’s really grungy it just depends.
How is your style different than everyone else? Probably just the lack of cohesiveness in my closet. Frilly lace and skulls tend to leave people a bit confused, well at least where I’m from it does.
Do you prefer buying a few key designer items that you wear a lot or does your wardrobe consist of mostly high street or e.g. vintage or from markets? I definitely have a nice mix of things, I really can’t afford designer pieces, and so the pieces that I have, I found on sale somewhere or ruthlessly hunted them down.
Where do you get inspiration for your outfits? Magazines, blogs, the weather, my mood, anything really.
What do you consider the biggest fashion faux pas? I absolutely cannot stand when girls wear leggings and a t-shirt/top that doesn’t cover their derriere. Bonus points if you’re wearing UGG boots at the same time.
What do you love/ hate most about clothes? Cost. Its really sad to me that fashion isn’t affordable to everyone. I think if you have great style, you should be able to express it. There are tons of pieces I would love to own, not for the label, but because I love how they look. The truth is I can’t afford a $900 sweater no matter how gorgeous it is.
What was your style like growing up? Awkward. I went through all kinds of phases, but it wasn’t until college that I truly developed my sense of style, what I like and what works for me.
If you only had to wear one label/ designer for the rest of your life, who would it be and why? Probably J.Crew. I have an on going love affair with J. Crew. The catalogs they have been pumping out are divine. Honestly, I couldn’t just wear one label for the rest of my life, it would be boring. But, at the moment I am completely enamored by J.Crew.
What is the craziest/ weirdest thing you've ever worn? A giant cardboard box painted like a popcorn box for Halloween. It was awesome and I won a costume contest for it. Ha Ha.
If you could wear only one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, what would that be? My Joe’s Ex-lover Jeans. They are crazy comfortable and go with everything.
What article of clothing can't you live without? Pair of shoes? I couldn’t live without a great pair of jeans. They are relaxed, yet sexy all at the same time. I am completely in love with high heels, but if I could only own one pair of shoes, it would be my Frye engineer boots. They go with everything, and let’s face it I live in Michigan, I can’t be without a pair of boots, plus I could run a marathon in those babies.
Have you always been interested in fashion? Well, I’ve been dressing myself for awhile now, haven’t always gotten it right, but hey isn’t that half the fun.
Let’s talk about your favorites:
What are your favorite pieces of jewelry right now? Pearl ribbon chunky J.Crew necklace
What's your current favorite purchase for fall? Waterfall cardigans
What's your favorite kind of candy? Black Licorice
What is your favorite place in the whole world? Arizona.
Absolute favorite places to shop? Anthropology. Fashion Square in Scottsdale :)
What are your favorite blog(s)? Maison des Reveries, Chic Heroin, Cupcakes and Cashmere, Fashion Bananas, Marian Kihogo, This Chick’s Got Style, Cocorosa
What's your favorite thing/ outfit to wear that makes you feel amazing? Shoes. I love shoes, when I have on a great pair of shoes, nothing else matters.
What's your favorite food & drink? Lately, I’ve really been into Mexican. So a good wet burrito and I am ruthlessly addicted to mango margaritas.
Who is far and beyond your favorite band/ musician? Taylor Swift. I love her. I love how honest her music is, I think she has great style, but mostly because I think she is genuine in everything she does. So yes, I am a 12 year old, but I don’t care.
Who is your favorite designer and why? Even though I don’t own a single piece of her clothing it’s got to be Stella McCartney. Her designs are fresh, a little whimsy, sexy, girly. I just love her pieces, sadly my bank account doesn’t agree with me.
A Few Last Things:
Who is your inspiration? I don’t think there is one person that I draw from, everything inspires me.
Who would you consider the ultimate style icon? Mary Kate Olsen, although I have a major girl crush on Olivia Palermo.
What impression do you want to leave on the people that visit your blog? Be unapologetic about your style.
Do you ever get recognized on the street? No, I live in the middle of no where. Seriously, I live in the boons down a dirt road.
Do you have any advice for aspiring fashion journalists? Be true to yourself, when people say you can’t do something, use that energy to further yourself. You are your biggest fan and are the only person responsible for your happiness, so do what makes YOU happy.
Who do you think is the most attractive female celebrity? Aishwarya Rai. That woman is absolute gorgeous. A few weeks ago I saw her on Oprah (yes, sometimes I watch Oprah) and I just could not take my eyes off her. Plus, she seems incredible sweet. I think beauty is really more than skin deep. For me personality makes a person truly beautiful.
If you could swap lives with any celebrity, who would it be and why? Blake Lively. She has a great closet and killer style, Plus who wouldn’t like to snuggle up with Penn ;)

Anything you would like new/current readers to know about?
I love you all!
