Some blogs you see and you like what you see but you rarely go back (I hope my blog isn't one of these). Other blogs you see and your hooked! You're inspired by the person and you look forward to their next post. Some bloggers are not only fashionable and have great photos but also has an opinion and aren't afraid to share it. That's why this month's "Blogger of the Month" is Fashion Chalet. I came across Erika's blog through Karen's blog (WhereDidUGetThat) and was hooked. Not only is Erika super nice but I love how in every picture she's just being herself and when you read her posts you sorta feel like you're good friends sharing style secrets. I'm also seriously in love with her shoe collection and style. Just so happens that we're the same size...if only our closets were connected it would be a perfect world! haha
I asked Erika to be March's Blogger of the Month because I know once you get to know her and take a look at her blog you'll be hooked as well. So read more below about Erika from Fashion Chalet and then hop on over to her site. (Link at the bottom!)
Let’s get to know you:What would you like us to call you by? Erika or Erika Marie
How old and tall are you? 26 and I'm 5'7"
Three words to describe yourself? Talkative, caring, loyal
What do you do for life? Job/ study? P/T creative writer (newsletters, web, papers) I studied: Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Graphic Design.
What is your nerdiest hobby? Collecting nail polish lol... or dancing to my iPod in my room ahah!
How long is your hair? And what’s the longest it’s ever been? THIS is the longest it has ever been. It's past my waist now.
Let’s talk about your amazing pictures:
What camera do you use? Nikon D300 and Candon 7DWho takes your photos? My husband mainly or Mom
Do you use photo editing software? If so what? Photoshop sometimes
How often do you take photos? 2-3 times a week
Let’s talk about the blog:Why did you start to blog and how did you come up with the name? I saw many girls blogging and always would come back to read and see them, then one day thought, "hey why not start my own?" and took off from there. I knew I wanted 'Fashion' in the title but wanted another word - something 'French'? Then Chalet sprang to mine. I like the way it flows... pronounced: sha-lay.
What do you think you bring to the fashion blog world? I love to compile my favorite images from my various saved folders and collage them all up for my readers. It's a fun way to show them with a splash of color and visuals what I'm into at any particular moment. I also love to review Fashion Week collections. And of course, share my outfits.
What's your secret on getting your blog so popular? I'm often asked this but my only answer is: updating often and about things you like. The rest will follow. :)
Have you ever regretted blogging your style (and life) online? Never.
Have you ever felt like blogging was bad for you? If yes, why? Only when it's almost Midnight and I'm still online... ahhh lol.
Do you ever get negative comments? If so, how do you handle/deal with it? Yes. I say to myself, I must be doing something right. One positive reader once told me, "nobody throws stones at trees without fruits." Well said, and I remember it to this day. :) Let’s talk about your style:
Describe your style: Bohemian, Classic and feminine. I love the rock and roll/90's grunge, too. But in time have learned that classic, sophisticated looks and anything feminine (florals, soft colors) are my new favorite and most flattering.
Do you prefer buying a few key designer items that you wear a lot or does your wardrobe consist of mostly high street or e.g. vintage or from markets? I'm a mix. I love vintage shopping. It's the thrill of the hunt, not knowing what you might find. A lot of times I go out shopping with a list in mind, but it's always fun to see what will "jump out" at you too. I'll invest on a great label if the fit is right and the style is timeless.
Where do you get inspiration for your outfits? Celebrites, models, fashion magazines, movies, music, nature. I just soak it all in. ;)
When styling an outfit where do you start? It's always different. Sometimes I'll have an idea in mind of exactly what I want to wear (piece by piece) other times I just "grab and go" and then there's always the "let me dress around this one new item" (be it shoes, a ring, jacket, bag, etc.) and see where it takes me.
What do you consider the biggest fashion faux pas? Uggs (with miniskirts) and Crocs !! argh.
What was your style like growing up? I was always inventing, mixing and matching. Ask anyone. I always looked at the trends but liked trying my own take on things as well.
If you only had to wear one label/ designer for the rest of your life, who would it be and why? That's a great question, although a tough one. I'd have to say Proenza Schouler. I like the fluidity of the line as well as the fun, yet practical, pops of color.
What is the craziest/ weirdest thing you've ever worn? In middle school, my tomboy phase. Baggy pants and men's t's with basketball jerseys. ACK! :/
Have you always been interested in fashion? Since I was 4!! I wanted a denim jacket with some ridiculous price-tag at Bloomingdale's. Threw a fit and everything. My Mom told me no, she knew I would grow out of it in less then a few months. She did appease me later on with another one at a more reasonable price though.
Shoes:Show me your favorite shoe of your own wardrobe! I love these four pair. GoJane, Balenciaga, Balenciaga and Dolce and Gabbana.
Who is/are your favorite shoe designer(s)? Dolce and Gabbana, Christian Louboutin, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Chloe and Proenza Schouler. But there are so many more. Everyday new ones pop up and catch my eye! ;)What do you think about the importance of the shoes in an outfit? Very. It can make or break an outfit. And it can certainly change it in so many ways: from casual to dress and so on.
Estimating- How many shoes are in your collection? I'm scared to know. hahah. Definitely over 100.
