DIY- The Sponge Mani

DSC_4793
I instagramed my nails like this a while ago (see here) and have received a few messages about how I did it. I thought what better way to explain than with a DIY post.
What you'll need:
Clean, dry nails
Base Coat (I used Orly Bonder),
3-4 polish colors (I used Essie Lady Like, Recessionista, School of Hard Rocks, No More Film),
make up sponges, scissors, q-tips, polish remover,
a top coat (I used Seche Fast Dry Top Coat).

After applying a base coat start with your light colored polish. You can skip this step but I find that a base coat of color helps create a more solid look after sponging.

*While the base coat is drying take a makeup sponge and cut it so the sponge width is just wide enough to cover your thumb nail.*

You'll repaint the sponge a few times for each hand since the polish tends to dry quickly and gets used up.

Start with light pressure on the sponge for a thin coat and wait for it to dry. Then go back with a freshly painted sponge and apply harder pressure. Repeat this till you have the desired darkness and coating for your nail.

You'll want to wait till your nails are dry to the touch to do this step.

Yes, it is a little messy but it's very quick and easy to do and so many different variations you could create. There is a trick where you can put cuticle oil on your skin to help with easier clean up but I haven't tried it yet because if you have any oil on your nail bed the polish won't stick as well.

I love that you can do this with any colors you want. I was thinking red, white, and green for the holiday season. The one thing to remember is to just have fun with it.
