Lucky FABB Conference - Sept 2012

"How to Make It on Your Own Terms" was the theme of the fourth Lucky Magazine FABB conference and I fully appreciated the theme. It hits home with what I’ve been thinking lately because what might have worked for blogger X to get big might not work for blogger Y. This conference was without a doubt so inspirational and educational for me. I walked away with a new wave of energy and excitement for blogging and a really came to terms with the fact that you do “Have to Make It on Your Own Terms”. Here are some photos & a recap from the day:
This year there were more bloggers than before so it required a different venue (The Time Building) which also meant we had to wait outside (not good for frizz prone hair!) (left to right: Kimberly, Alyson, me, Jennifer, Lexi)
The gorgeous Brand Holley, editor in chief of Lucky Magazine, started the conference off {in a to die for pair of Nicholas Kirkwood heels} in a conversation with Terry Lundgren, CEO of Macy’s, about social media and Macy’s moving forward.
The next panel was by far the most entertaining with Leandra Medine (founder of The Man Repeller’s) grand entrance. It was also very interesting to hear how other bloggers handle negative comments and feedback.
I was most excited to hear Rachel Zoe talk after being a huge fan for so many years. I could honestly have listened to her talk all day about how she transitioned from one stage of her life to the other and countless words of advice. Rachel Zoe is such a huge inspiration and motivator for me as someone who started at the bottom and worked their way to the top. Rachel's quote that stuck with me and really got me thinking: "You're never going to succeed at something if it doesn't feel right to you" and "Always be nice to people. Don't step on people to get where you want to in this business."
The other conversation I was excited to listen to was with Lauren Conrad. I feel like I grew up with her since I had watched her show from the beginning, read her books, and wear her Kohl's line quite frequently. (Her shoes are from Kohl's- available HERE) I loved what Lauren had to say about balancing her blog and clothing line because it can relate to anyone’s point in their career. "When you do multiple things you love, it doesn’t feel like work. When you enjoy it so much, you don’t mind being busy."
The final conversation of the day was with the humorous Simon Doonan (brand ambassador for Barney’s New York) as he interviewed fashion designer Anna Sui. It was interesting to hear about where Anna gets her inspiration for her line, and then Simon’s remarks kept the audience laughing and energized. I loved when Simon quickly added to Anna’s comment about the best advice she'd ever been given:  "My professor would always say 'Look who is on the cover of WWD today, but think about who will be on it tomorrow." said Anna. Simon quickly added, "Today’s peacock is tomorrow’s feather duster."
My Outfit: Topshop Peplum top; ASOS pencil skirt & belt; Prada studded pumps (2009); Gifted necklace;

Between all of the panels were fabulous "brand experience suites" where we got to make a fun flip book with BCBGeneration; hair and beauty touch-ups courtesy of Proctor & Gamble, and even take part of a mini photo shoot for Caravelle by Bulova.

It was great to meet so many other bloggers who share the same love and passion for fashion as I do. I was a little sad that I didn’t get to talk to as many as I wanted but the day was just so jammed packed with amazing panels. I am so incredibly grateful and appreciative for the opportunity I’ve been given by attending FABB. Every year I walk away with so much beneficial information and motivation to really do more with my blog. What Lucky Magazine is doing for bloggers is truly an amazing gift and I hope they know how thankful we all are for it.
